The novel is a tale of the lost innocence of a squad of soldiers in the Vietnam War. Though the soldiers enter the war as naïve youths, the war quickly changes them and forces them to develop into young men.

You will see as you read this book it is a great book with valuble lessons and experiences of these young men who grew up throughout the Vietnam War. I would recommend this book to just about anyone who likes action and adventure because this book is full of it. It brings to you the unromantic reality of war and helps you realize that war is not what you may visualize. Richie Perry, a young soldier, sees for himself that most of the things about war are different in reality rather than in movies or tv. These boys all learn to decide from good and bad and really mature in this book. It is in some ways a lot like the Red Badge Of Courage by Stephen Crane.
